WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEANS TO ‘GO GRAY’

For anyone interesting in going any type of gray knows it takes hard work, patience and costs a lot of money to get to. Gray is one of the most trending color of the year. We now see all ages of people walk into our salon requesting for gray hair. A once avoided and shamed color, is now our most popular color service at the salon and one of our favorites colors too.

The gray trend has broken the ideology of being an old lady if you choose to wear this tone. Most of our clients start going natural salt and pepper gray during their early 20’s. When a client goes gray at a younger age, it can be costly and tiring keeping up with the routine 4-6 week root touch up process to cover the natural gray hair. This is where the natural gray trend is growing popularity these recent years. There are 3 options we give our clients when considering going natural gray.

1. Let your hair grow out naturally: (Takes 3-6 years to fully grow out the natural gray enough to then cut off chemically colored hair). This process is not the pretties but is the best option if you can’t pick between the other 2 options.

2. Shave your head and let your natural gray hair grow out: (Takes 1-4 years). This process is the boldest of the three choices. This isn’t for every client, however, the ones who are seem to not think twice about this option. You can always play with hats or wigs until your natural hair has reached a length you can style.

3. Color correct to match hair to gray natural growth pattern: (Takes 1-3 visits to the salon). This process is the most efficient but costly of the 3 options. Starting anywhere from $75-$100/hour this color correction process can easily bring you to a $1,000 + more tab. Yes, this does sound expensive when you first read it, however, consider not ever coloring your roots every 4-6 weeks anymore. After doing the math, you can calculate more money spent on your repeated root touch ups then the cost to go gray immediately in one big lump sum.
